This month’s Crocodile mystery is about an engraving. What do you think are the wavy lines on this print?

  • I see what appear to be stairs. So I imagine that this is an upper level or a tower. Hence the wiggly lines depict the air moving around the outside of the structure. My first two thoughts were water and dirt but that seemed too obvious.

  • Could it be that the plate itself was cracked from overuse pr poor printing technique, or that the more spidery ones came from the ground failing?
